So, this week I'm celebrating the two year anniversary of the publication of my first story: His Ship, Her Fantasy, Book 1 of the Mates of the Guardian series. Book 2: His Hope, Her Salvation followed, but then I branched off into erotica with the historical Regency Twice is Not Enough, Slave to Innocence, a historical set in Ancient Greece, and most recently, Tempting Terms, a contemporary.
If you're a follower of Mates of the Guardians then you'll know Book 1 was futuristic, sci-fi while Book 2 was paranormal, historical Georgian. And, with the upcoming release of Book 3: His Capture, Her Rescue, I'm bringing it all together in...drum roll, please...Victorian England. (I'll be posting the blurb and cover later this week.) In addition to Book 3, I also have a contemporary cowboy menage, Riding Rodeo, and another contemporary, Not Just Friends, under contract.
In the beginning, I chose to use the same name for all my romance stories, but now with a growing list of titles, I'm faced with the dilemma of branding. If you take a look at my banner, it says, "Worlds of adventure...souls of desire." Is this more or less applicable? Can you think of something else to capture the essence of the writings of Emma Lai? (Visit my website: http://www.emmalaiwrites.com for a comprehensive view of my works.)
Leave me a suggestion or an appropriate comment dealing with branding, and be entered for a chance to win a $25 gift certificate to Amazon, Barnes and Noble or The Wild Rose Press...winner's choice. Other prizes may include a critique and copies of published stories as well as ARCs to upcoming stories...let's just see how many people comment, shall we?

Hi Emma,
How about: Worlds of Adventure, desire and Fantasy.
To me that covers your erotic romance, your sci-fi, your historical and contemporary.
How about...
1. Enter The Many Worlds Of Emma Lai Where Romance and Desire Awaits.
2. The Many Worlds of Emma Lai...Adventure, Historical Romances and Fantasy
3. Romantic Interludes... Enter Emma Lai's Many Worlds of Romance
What's desire without Romance~~
Assuming they are all romances?
Good to talk to you Emma, smiles!
Romancing the world with adventure?
Adventurous romance where love and fantasy meet?
I suck at this. lol! But congrats on all the current and upcoming releases!
Thanks for the suggestions Marie, Karen, Mary and Lilly!
To me, the whole "worlds of adventure" aspect refers to the sci-fi/fantasy series Mates of the Guardians because those are all about the action. Now "souls of desire" is more generic and can be applied across the board because yes, all the stories are romantic in nature. I'm a sucker for HEA, or at the very least, HFN.
But don't feel like any of it has to be incorporated into the suggestion.
"Where love is concerned, there are no limitations."
"Romance that fulfills your every desire."
"Through time, space and the paranormal love never dies."
As far as branding, I definitely think a catchy phrase helps to, at the very least, grab the eye and start conversations.
I mean you can either try to find a catchphrase that puts forth the genres you write in the most or try to be vague and put the gusto in the 'romance' portion of the slogan.
Were you going for something of a similar style to what you have now? Or were you going to fit the banner to the slogan? Alternately you could go for a vaguer banner up top and then create smaller matching ones for each sub genre or series that catches the essence of that particular strength. A bit more work, but it could solve the problem of trying to find a slogan that does skew too far either way.
My original blog design for Poisoned Rationality had an entirely different look and catchphrase. It used to 'My life...as read in books'. I liked it, and people were certainly--what do you mean? so I got questions, but it didn't really DESCRIBE my blog (its now 'Where Desire is Diverse'...frak it all that would work REALLY WELL For you too).
anyhow just my two cents :) Looking forward to Mates 3 (as if THAT wasn't obvious XD)
I got nothing. Brain's fried tonight. Just wanna say I love your covers. Very pretty.
How about "Step into the adventure" - another not so exciting one, but at least I tried. . . . I loved Twice is Not Enough.
Wow, Lexie. Great suggestions and thought-provoking comments. Gives me much to ponder. If you're ever in the market for a marketing job let me know...
As for Book 3, you, my friend, have just earned an ARC. It'll be a while though...still in edits. :)
Thanks, Clover. I love my covers, too.
Patsy, I'm so glad you enjoyed Twice. I learned so much working with my editor on that one. I'm hoping all the lessons translate to everything I've done since then and from here forward.
"Worlds of Adventure" to me screams sci-fi. If you want your brand to be something different, I'd change that.
Thanks for stopping by Catherine.
:) too cool! heh my friends often will toss random things at me and be like 'I need a catchy title for this essay--go!' Its tough though--like you said you kind of outgrew the slogan you have now.
:peace sign: Hopefully inspiration strikes!
Emma,
Romancing with Emma Lai , where passion never ends, adventure eludes the true test of time.
Love all your books. Thanks for the contest
Melinda
How about: "Enter a universe where passion and desire evade the trappings of time"?
Such a great idea, Emma. I'm terrible at tag lines - it took me two years to come up with mine. I don't think you want to wait that long!
Melinda, your suggestion has definitely got ideas flowing in my head.
Oooh, I like the concept, Joanna. Will have to work that into my idea.
I'll tell you a secret, Cate, I didn't come up with the first one. Kadian Tracey gifted me with that wonderful banner and tagline.
Thanks to everyone for the wonderful ideas...stay tuned for the unveiling...
