Preparing for Baby

There are few things more exciting than hearing the news that your work, your baby, will be published. However, for me, this news was quickly followed by the discovery that less than two months after the release of His Ship, Her Fantasy, my husband and I would be welcoming an actual bouncing baby into our lives.

In preparation for the arrival of my book baby in August and my bouncing baby boy in October, I'm doing some housekeeping, or nesting, as the pregnancy books call it. I'm cleaning out the closets (Who knew a person could accumulate so many empty book boxes?) and putting together promo packages and goodie bags.

Let me know how you would prepare for the arrival of a baby (book or bouncing) or what the best release prize you've ever seen or heard of (no promises), and you'll be entered to win a $10 gift certificate to The Wild Rose Press.

Congrats from me too. For the original organic baby, buy diapers every week. The Sunday paper always has coupons. Buy a pack of each size until you have them all, then start over again with the smallest size. :)

For the metaphorical baby, burn incense and chant because promo is killer. :) Did you join the promo schedule loop?

Good luck! And get some sleep. ;)

Thanks, Patsy!

Thanks, Skhye! I've also registered for each size of baby diapers. Although, I wasn't actually planning on buying any until after the baby shower. I'm a definite coupon clipper though. I like those extra dollars!

Sleep? I've given up on a full night's sleep for the next year at least!

Emma, you'll learn to catch some sleep whenever you can! The best naps are with your baby nestled in your arms. If you can forget schedules and just follow your baby's, you'll be better off! Go natural!

Thanks, Masha. I already told my husband...if the baby is asleep then I will be too!

After the baby is born, remember to take a little time out for just you. Let daddy take care of the little one and get in some bonding time while you soak in a nice hot bubble bath. Remember: A happy mommy equals happy baby! (usually) :)

Oooh...I wish I had a bathtub. Maybe next year. I do miss my baths.

I think you need to be pampered and waited on like a princess. Someone should bring you bon bons and chilled glasses of juice, while serving you lunch and doing all the housework for you. So I'm a dreamer.
How about just sleep as much as you can. Because once that sweetling is here you will be sleep deprived for awhile!
October! I didn't realize it was that soon!
Yeah Emma!

Thanks Mary and Christine! Hubby does a pretty good job of spoiling me!

For the book baby, I've no advice. I'm way behind you there! For the bouncing baby...relax. Sleep. Go to the movies. Go out with your husband. Read books. Take bubble baths. Enjoy your free time anyway you like best.

Congratulations on both of your new babies. Good luck!

I wish I had a really good contest idea to tell you about. I'm trying to think of one for myself!

Oh Emma, this is such an exciting time! And I agree with the others excellent advice, try and rest as much as possible *now* before your darling baby arrives! And then just enjoy every wonderful day because babies grow soooo fast!! xoxox

Thanks, Christina! I'm trying.

Just wanted to pop in and say congrats. Is this your first?

Do you have one of those big exercise balls? That's what I always give for baby shower gifts. Baby's like to be bounced more than rocked (or so I've heard; that was also my experience). You can sit on the ball and gently bounce. This will tone your abs and core at the same time you soothe your sweet baby. Then when you're ready to exercise again, you can use the ball for that too.

Take care of yourself.

As others have said, go with the baby's schedule and you should be fine(at least better than juggling 2 schedules). Do give dh time to bond with baby as it is necessary and it will give you 'me' time. Even if you shower/bath and paint your toenails you'll feel better.

Seems as if you are doing a good job by cleaning out closets and making goody bags for the arrival of the new book baby.
The best to you and yours.

Thanks for the great suggestion Becky! This is our first. Very excited!

Thanks, Robyn! I don't think I could keep hubby away from baby if I wanted to. The man can't keep his hands off my belly. He's so happy!
