Emma: Today, I am featuring an interview with Kerri Nelson, author of the romantic suspense Miss Taken currently available from Whispers Publishing.
Blurb:
Tabitha Stuart is a work-a-holic who may live in the city that never sleeps but manages to spend her Friday nights behind the desk at the accounting firm of Donaldson & Franks. On a snowy February night, she reminisces over her recent New Year’s resolutions. She’s worked hard to make partner in her firm, but now she’s resolved to make her personal life more exciting. She wants to be more like her jet setter, risk taking sister.
As Tabby heads home for the night, she is abducted from her office’s parking garage and held captive by a sexy stranger in an Atlantic City Casino penthouse. Her captor’s boss demands that she return the half million dollars that she stole from him. As her life spirals out of control, she must discover why she was taken and how she has ended up in a world that is not her own.
She must solve the mystery, save her own life, and resist the sexual temptations she feels for her mysterious captor. To survive this adventure, she can’t afford to make mistakes.
Welcome, Kerri! First let me say, congratulations on your first release!
Kerri: Thank you so much, Emma. I’m thrilled for this opportunity to chat about my writing, books, and other projects!
Emma: Your bio mentions your education and career in the legal field. What exactly is your experience? Did you happen to work for the FBI?
Kerri: It is so funny that you mention a career with the FBI. Interestingly, it was always a dream of mine and one of the reasons that I pursued my degree in Criminal Justice & Law Enforcement. During college, I did apply for a position with the Bureau and was selected for the interview process. As fate would have it, I ended up moving to Japan for a couple of years and missed out on that job opportunity. Of course, as they say, everything happens for a reason!
Emma: Ooh! I definitely would have chosen Japan over the FBI.
I thought I read somewhere that the idea for Miss Taken came to you while in the shower. Please share!
Kerri: LOL, Emma! Yes, I’ve often said that my muse is a wicked woman indeed. It seems that she only visits me with story ideas while in the shower or bath tub. Perhaps it is only because those are the only moments during the day when I’m alone with my thoughts, but I like to think of her as being a trouble making muse.
Emma: It seems to be a good sort of trouble she’s causing though!
Your book trailer did an excellent job of capturing the feeling of the story. Did you enjoy making it?
Kerri: Thanks for asking about my book trailer. I made it before my book came out as a part of a marketing class that I was taking. I enjoyed the project so much that I’ve taken up a little side business of creating trailers for some author friends of mine. I’ve completed around 10 or so trailers for other authors now. I absolutely love the design and production process. It is very fulfilling to see a story come to life on screen.
Actually, I’m giving away a custom book trailer right now as a prize in one of the three huge prize packs in my current website contest. Authors should be sure to check that out if you’re interested in winning a trailer design for your book. Also, in May, I’ll be giving away a custom made trailer for the Brenda Novak Auction for Juvenile Diabetes Research in honor of my daughter who was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes at the age of 2.
Emma: What an awesome prize, but I’m sorry, to hear about your daughter. However, knowing the awesome mother you are, I’m sure she’s well taken care of!
I’m curious about what you are working on now. I’ve seen on your blog allusions to two works in progress. Care to share?
Kerri: Oh, sure. I have so many book ideas fighting each other for time and space in my brain that it is difficult to concentrate on the current work in progress sometimes. I’m just now completing my second paranormal book that is a romantic comedy featuring a mother who just so happens to be a retired witch.
Speaking of paranormal projects, I’ll share a little news with you…I just got word that my first paranormal book which features a sexy shapeshifter entitled “Soul Searcher” will be released in September from Whispers Publishing! Woot!
Other than that, I’m venturing into my very first historical romance book that is set partly in Regency era England. It is a time travel book so it is not entirely historical but I’m having a blast doing the research for this book. More details to come on that project soon!
Emma: Congrats on the upcoming release! It sounds like you’re interests are just as varied as mine. Thank you for your time, Kerri, and good luck with your future books!
Kerri: Thank you so much Emma…best of luck to you as well. I know that great things are in store for you both personally and professionally, my friend.
I’d like to close by taking this opportunity to remind everyone about my current ongoing contest that is HUGE! There is still time to enter for a chance to win 1 of 3 amazing Red Carpet Prize Packs. Their total value is over $400 and includes such items as a diamond necklace, an MP4 player and more! Thanks for hanging out with me at Emma's today!

Hi Emma and Kerri! Miss Taken sounds very intriguing, and I love the trailer, Kerri! LOL about your ideas coming to you while in the shower, isn't that always the way!!
ReplyDeleteHey Christina!
ReplyDeleteI see that you are up early like me. I have three children and one of them is a toddler so I never get any sleep!
Welcome to the party here at lovely Emma's blog today. Thanks for stopping by.
Glad you like the trailer! I'll have a new one up soon for my new release coming in September. It is my first paranormal and I'm very excited about trying out a new genre.
Good morning, Kerri! I'll be leaving later, but wanted to make sure I stopped by first. I can't wait to read your paranormal.
ReplyDeleteThat's so cool about about your two options. I always wanted to go to China to teach but didn't. I have the greatest respect for any type of law enforcement (military) person. So I think that you having the option to work for the FBI is very admirable. I went to see about it (for my son of course), but they don't take you after 35. Alas, I'm a tad over . . :-)
Julie
Hey Julie! [waving enthusiastically]
ReplyDeleteWell, I wasn't going to train to be an agent although I've often fantasized about an agent or two...Fox Mulder comes to mind. But..I digress!
I was going to be involved in the research side of things. I was all about criminology and evidence. Analyzing the details and putting the puzzle together was my favorite part.
Alas, hopefully I can use some of that knowledge in my books if nothing else.
Thanks for stopping by, my friend!
Hey Kerri!
ReplyDeleteYou've got a head start then! I've always thought if I could do it again, I'd go into forensic antrhopology; or something to do with forensics in helping to solve crimes.
Have a great day :-)))
Julie
Oh yeah, definitely...a little "Bones" action then? Hmmm...now you've got me thinking about David Boreanaz. I'll never get any work done now. LOL
ReplyDeleteHello all. Mommy to be is finally up and moving around. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting Christina and Julie!
Kerri, thanks for agreeing to be my guest!
Love the book trailer, Kerri! I wish I knew how to do things like that, but I'm a techie idiot, LOL. Congratulations on your recent successes, and I wish you many more!
ReplyDeleteHelen
Kerri - Bones is one of my favorite shows - and I'm a big fan of Kathy Reichs as well-- anyone read her books? I'm picking up Miss Taken for my summer reads.
ReplyDeleteI'm an anthropology grad, and used to hang out in the forensics lab at the U of A - one of the most vivid memories was Dr. Birkby had a shoe on his desk, with a broken tibia/fibula sticking out of it. CRAZY.
Great job on the trailer. Many sales to you!
~Ashley
Good morning, Kerri and Emma. Great blurb and trailer, Kerri. Miss Taken is an intriguing premise. I've decided my Muse is a Pisces. She loves hot showers, rainy days, and anything to do with water. If I get blocked, often taking a long, hot shower will get the creative juice flowing. I thought I was the only one, LOL. Glad to know I'm not weird after all!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by Helen, Ashley, and Silver!
ReplyDeleteG'morning momma Emma! Get all the sleep you can now girlfriend. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for having me! I'm so thrilled to be your guest of honor today.
Hanging out with authors and readers is a great way to spend my Friday! Woot!
Hey sweet Helen!
ReplyDeleteThanks for blogging with me yesterday and today. I love your blog, too. If I just had about 10 more hours in the day, I'd spend them all blog hopping. It can be so dang addictive, can't it?
Thanks for your comments on my trailer. That was the first one that I've ever done and I've gotten much better. I'd love to do a trailer for you sometime. ;-)
Hugs,
K.
Ashely is in the house! Hey, hon!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and the compliment on my trailer. It is very much appreciated.
I totally love Kathy Reichs. I'd like to be her when I grow up. Oh, wait...I am grown up. Dang!
Tee hee.
Oh yeah, Ashley...thanks for saying that you're gonna pick up Miss Taken. I hope you do and that you let me know how you like it. If you happen to get it before the end of April, you have to enter my Red Carpet contest. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Hey Silver, so glad that you're here! I've been over to your blog once or twice and love it!
ReplyDeleteIs there such a thing as "blog-addicts-anonymous"? LOL
You are totally not weird. Those muse babes are wicked naughty. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it! ;-)
Kerri-Sounds like your head is just boiling with ideas you need to put on paper.
ReplyDeleteYour trailer was great. It looks like a pro did it, so I guess the class paid off bigtime!
I'm with Helen, I'm lucky I can answer my emails!
Best of luck with your book!!
Emma-as always you make your authors look good!
Hi Emma and Kerri!
ReplyDeleteNice to stop by today and read about you. Your book trailer piqued my interest and I am glad to read that you have many more works in progress.
Great interview, as always, Emma!
Rachel
Kerri, I love the trailer! Sooo professional. And your story sound so good! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteChristine
Nice meeting you Kerri!! MISS TAKEN sounds like a perfect title to that blurb! I like! I shall be watching for that shape-shifter too! Congrats. I love reading historicals in alot of time periods! Regency, Victorian, Medieval, Western, Georgian and all! I so love to get lost within them! I shall be off to your site to visit too! Loved to meet you with the interview too!
ReplyDeleteFabulous interview Kerri! I loved this story :) Wishing you many many sales!!!
ReplyDeleteHey Mary,
ReplyDeleteSo thrilled that you like my trailer. I'm blushing with your praise. Awe, shucks! I guess I'm sort of trying to become a professional as I've made around 10 more trailers for other authors since that one. You can check out some of the at YouTube under booktrailersbykerri
Yep, my hubby and daughter are always saying "which book is this again"? As I prattle on about all my different story ideas. They can't keep up with all the stuff that's flowing in my brain. LOL
Hiya Rachel...how cool that I was able to pique something! :-) That's a cool word "pique" isn't it?
ReplyDeleteCan you tell that I've been writing today? I had a goal of 7000 words (trying to get caught up) and I've done 3000 so far. Ugh! Maybe cause I'm spending so much time blogging! LOL
Thanks for your comment & hanging out with us here at Emma's!
Howdy Christine!
ReplyDeleteAren't you a doll? Thanks for stopping by and giving me props on my book trailer. So glad you enjoyed it. You should check out some of the ones I've done for other authors they are so much better than mine! LOL
I love this story...its all about getting what you wish for and more!
Caffey,
ReplyDeleteYou crack me up! Nice to meet you too. Although I've known you about 4 years now. LOL
I'm the same Kerri that was a moderator at NovelTalk for years!
So good to see you again and hope you're feeling well these days. Thanks for your kind words about my book.
Hey Eliza!
ReplyDeleteMy friend! Thanks for coming out to say "hello"...I need to send you a final edition of the book...your quote looks so dang good in there!
Big hugs,
K.
Thanks for stopping by Mary, Rachel, Christine, Caffey, and Eliza!
ReplyDeleteGreat Interview! Loved all the comments too.

Great interview! Congratulations on your new paranormal contract, Kerri...and best of luck with all your future releases! (BTW, I love the title Miss Taken!)
ReplyDeleteHey Patsy!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and hanging out! Great to "meet" you here. :-)
Hey Cari,
ReplyDeleteDo you get as many folks who spell your name wrong as I do? I always ask other folks named Kerri, Keri, Kerry, Kari, Karrie, Kerrie, Carrie, Carey, Cari, etc...
Seems like folks always get us confused, eh?
So, in other words, I like your name! Tee hee.
Thanks for the compliment on my book title. Hope you get a chance to check it out!
Thanks for visiting Patsy and Cari!
ReplyDeleteHi Kerri and Emma,
ReplyDeleteGreat interview. I enjoyed reading it.
Cheers
Margaret
Kerri, very nice trailer! The book sounds really good, too. Sorry to hear about your daughter, I hope all goes well for you with her. I have a cousin who's lived with diabetes all her life (40) and her dad developed it later. My grandfather died (almost 30 years ago) from complications due to a surgery he had to have because of diabetes.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck with your release!
Hi Kerri and Emma!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful, Kerri, to live in Japan! I would have chosen that option, too. Your trailer was kickin', lady!
I wish you heaps and heaps of success with Miss Taken!
Loved the questions, Emma. You do a geat job of showing us the person behind the name. :o)
Thanks for visiting Margaret, Stacey, and Sarah!
ReplyDeleteThanks Margaret!
ReplyDeleteI had so much fun doing the interview. Doesn't Emma do a great job? Perhaps she missed her calling. I think she could be a much more beautiful Barbara Walters, don't you? ;-)
Happy Saturday morning everyone! I'm up again at 5 a.m.! It should be illegal to be up this friggin early on a Saturday. Ugh!
Hey Stacey,
ReplyDeleteYep, this disease monster haunts so many people on a daily basis. It simply never goes away and insulin is not a cure...it is only a mere life support system.
We absolutely have to work to find a cure. My dream is that she'll be living diabetes free as an adult. I hope and pray that this happens.
Be sure to come out to the Brenda Novak auction starting this coming Friday!
Thanks for stopping by Stacey!
Howdy Sarah!
ReplyDeleteHow's my west coast pal today? I certainly hope that you're still blissfully asleep at 3:37 a.m. your time! LOL
Thanks for stopping by. It means so much to me to hear from you! Big hugs!
Maybe I can make an appearance on your blog soon (hint, hint) ;-)
C U L8tr (trying to see if I can still do the text talk thing),
Kerri
You crack me up Kerri! You're like the Energizer Bunny! I was up at 3 a.m. this morning writing some ideas down that refused to go away. I think I managed to get back to sleep around 6:30 or so, but my brain is officially still asleep.
